Dental Implants

At CDIC, we have placed 1000s of implants for people of all ages and no matter what the condition of their teeth, there are a number of treatments available at Cleveland Cosmetic and Dental Implant Clinic. We use Nobel Biocare, Osteocare, Ankylos and Endopore dental implant systems which are all leaders in their field, complementing each other and enabling us to tailor dental implant treatment to the needs of each individual patient. Most patients who are treated with any of these systems should expect lifelong replacements for their missing teeth. We perform regular clinical audits and take part in a thorough quality assurance programme organised by Denplan. All our friendly staff regularly participate in staff training and attend relevant courses. The appropriate bodies routinely check all equipment and we adhere strictly to the necessary guidelines. Patient care is our number one priority, we welcome patients and look after them as one big family. That's why they stay with us for years

How does a dental implant work?

Dental implants replace the roots of your natural teeth and support a manufactured crown or bridge.

Your natural tooth consists of two parts- the crown, which is what you see in your mouth and the root which is under the gum and holds the tooth in place. Dental implants are designed to best replicate this natural tooth structure - with the crown being made of porcelain to look like a natural tooth and the dental implant made of strong titanium acting as the root. Titanium is well tolerated by the body and once implanted in the jaw, bone grows onto the surfaces of the implant effectively fusing it to the surrounding bone- creating a solid and strong base.

Dental Implant Procedure

At your initial consultation, x-rays will be taken, your dental health and oral hygiene assessed and your problem evaluated.

Should dental implants be considered suitable for you, the implant procedure is as follows:

Stage 1

The surgeon places a metal (titanium) root in your jaw. While the root bonds to your bone, you are able to wear either temporary dentures or bridges. Should a tooth require extraction prior to implant treatment, it is often possible to extract the tooth and place the implant directly into the extraction socket at the same appointment. The healing process normally takes 3-6 months, but in some instance, a temporary prosthesis may be placed immediately onto the implant.

Stage 2

The surgeon attaches an extension on the metal root to bring it through the gum.

In a large proportion of cases, it is now possible to combine stages 1 and 2 in the same appointment, thus reducing the healing time, in certain cases to as little as 1 month.

Stage 3

The surgeon or your dentist, together with a dental technician, then creates a final tooth, bridge or denture. The artificial crown or bridge is attached with either cement or a screw.

Stage 4

Proper brushing, flossing and regular check-ups will help you maintain your dental implants in perfect condition.

Following dental implant treatment

It will be necessary for you to return to us on a yearly or 2 yearly basis for long term evaluation of implant stability, routine radiographic checks and professional cleaning of the implant prosthesis.

Same Day Teeth (Teeth in a day)

We provide teeth the same day as the original teeth are extracted or, when there are no teeth present, the same day as the implants are placed. Same day teeth can replace a single tooth, a few teeth or even a full set of teeth using what if called the "All on 4" system.

Same day teeth can be provided using conventional dental implants or mini and midi implants. Conventional implants must be used when a tooth is extracted and a dental implant placed immediately into the socket and they may also be used when there are no teeth present. Mini and midi implants can only be used where a tooth or teeth requiring replacement have been missing for at least 6 months.

FAQs

Where the insertion of implants is relatively straight forward it usually only takes around 15 minutes. Following this, the implants will require some time to integrate with the jaw bone. This can take between 3 and 6 months depending on where they have been fitted. Temporary restoration and full dentures can be worn throughout the recovery process until it is possible to fit the final crown. Each treatment is unique and your requirements will be discussed with you prior to commencement. Long term care is vital and regular check-ups and other maintenance will be scheduled as required.

Over 95% of implants are successful and with good levels of oral health and regular long-term care they can last for 15 years or more.

Implants usually take place under a local anaesthetic so you will not feel any pain during the procedure, although you may experience some discomfort for a week or two afterwards. If you are particularly nervous or your case is more complex, then a sedative may be considered. Overall, placing an implant is generally easier than removing a tooth.
